nina&lola launched in April 2007, stocking nine designers and some vintage sources with the self-proclaimed mission to ‘reduce the fashion-clone count’. Nina is Nina May, an ex PR/fashion journalist/producer from Hamburg who has managed to create a successful business with her personality at the hub. She selects designers based upon their talent, but also chooses to work with people she likes and respects. Being the upfront lady she is, she confesses that not many designers can manage to combine both talent and personality, which is why nina&lola will always remain a smaller, unique online shopping experience. All the better for it, we say.
Lola is her fibre-glass mannequin who models clothes from www.fuk.co.uk favourites such as Spijkers en Spijkers and Hannah Marshall, jewellery from the likes of Hannah Martin and, of course, accessories from Volker Lang.
Volker Lang is Nina’s favourite leather goods designer and judging by the top quality of his pieces it looks like he’ll become one of our favourites too. Hailing from Nina’s hometown of Hamburg, Lang manages to combine that innate German quality of practical functionality with high craftsmanship. Each piece is beautifully handcrafted in butter-soft leather that’s guaranteed to last a lifetime and only look better with age.
