Bora Aksu

With so much uncertainty in the world, it’s nice to know you can always rely on Bora Aksu for a fashion fairytale. Styled by Lula editor Leith Clark, the collection, inspired by Picnic at Hanging Rock, was more eerie Victorian whimsy than Bora’s usual brand of woodland nymphet.

The idea of faded paintings at an antique market was behind his colour choices; each pistachio or frosted pink shade appearing as if clouded with a light coating of dust. Sheer black overlays give a shadowy edge to girlish lilacs and lemons.

Liquid-like layers of sheer tulle and iridescent organza reveal more structured dresses, crafted to look like the inner framework of structured 1950s couture pieces. Billowing blouses and bow ties; the collection is as eclectic as it is beautiful. Shrunken tuxedo jackets with beaded lapels reign in romantic ruffles, playful chiffon partners a sober headscarf and giant bows by milliner Misa Harada adorn simple, scraped back hairstyles.

These dreamy creations seemed to float down the catwalk, sweet and child-like but with just enough quirk and quiet gothic touches to leave us without a sugar overload.
