Tue, 16/09/2008 - 4:45pm Vauxhall Fashion Scout, Baden Powell House, SW7 John Walford producing, Karen Binns styling and a s/s 09 collection full of sass: what more could you want for your debut LFW showing? Hemyca’s ‘The Dream of Time’ is a series of tailored looks designed by three London College of Fashion graduates with experience at Roland Mouret and Ben De Lisi amongst them.
Wanting to portray the fast paced world of fashion through their clothes, Hemyca have collaborated with jeweller Saint Erasmus and accented their sharp tailoring with cogs and jewellery resembling the innards of a clock.
The Hemyca girls want to provide bespoke tailoring for a contemporary woman and with this collection it looks like they’ve succeeded. There are no conservative two-piece suits here, but designs that are edgy enough to please any fashion lover yet equally ready to be worn in a formal setting.
Graduated hemlines are the focal point of the collection – tucked, tailored asymmetric dresses completed by modest pleated underskirts. Amidst the sober greys and blacks expect a zinging yellow draped dress and some very summery blue plaid with lemon pops. Everybody’s favourite? The parachute style dress with ruffled neckline drew a few gasps.
With the clock theme there was danger that this would head into gimmicky territory but instead it was a well-executed collection of slick tailoring made for the female body. Time well spent.
