Off-schedule shows can be hit-and-miss when it comes to quality but this cannot be said for Karen Brost's exquisite womenswear. Karen hails from New York and moved to London recently to be with her British boyfriend. She is a seasoned professional who has experience of running two labels stateside before establishing herself in London. Last season she held a reception at Portland Place, but this season she teamed up with stylist Rebekah Roy. The accessories are kept to a minimum - jewelled caps accompanied a few outfits but less was definitely more here as the nothing distracted from the sheer beauty and impact of the outfits. Fun elements include a pussy cat print smock and baby doll mini dresses, but sophistication abounds in floor-sweeping Grecian dresses with ruche necklines, perfectly tailored coats and a tulip-sleeved medieval dress with slinky rope belt which the designer calls a "T gown'. The colour palette is focused: a canvas of black and white is punctuated by red and abstract prints. This collection should sell very well from Monaco to Manhatten by way of the Vauxhall Fashion Scout! Karen should be very proud.
