i need this essential piece of equipment to enable me to preview a track.

http://www.numark.com/djio

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=120314854116#ht_2757wt_0

I have the numark total control mixer thing.

Before i buy it is there a maybe a cheaper alternative? It is just a standard sound card isn't it?

Is it just a hobby then? Or do you plan on eventually moving to clubs?

A mate of mine used his macbook and traktor, he was pretty good at it. CDJ's are the way forward though, he's moved over and it's much easier.

I started on cdj's (800mk2, 1000mk3) and picked it up really quickly, i don't know what vinyl is like to use as i've never used it, but i assume it'd be a good place to start as it transfers over to cdj's quite smoothly.

Makemlad, first thing to do is beatmatch, then take it from there.

I want to attempt a bit of mixing, are Pioneer CDJs the way to go? Should I start at 200s or go all out and get 800s to last me? I know a couple of fuk'ers on here have 800s. Also, what are they like second hand?

I went to meet Deadmau5 on saturday at HTFR in brum. It was fucking amazing. Only 80odd people turned up and he played a 2 hour set, brought his hat and everything. Proper geek though has no fasion sense whatsoever. DJing was amazing though. Makes me laugh how all these djs use comlpetely diff set ups. He was using a mac with ableton, with a khaos (i think) synthesiser, pioneers efx 1000 and an allen heath xone 400 i think it was or 40. Really good to watch, just a shame he doesnt use the conventional 1000mk3's. He didnt use a pair of headphones once.

On a side not as im poor ive just purchased the vestax cdx05's to go withmy djm300. Anyone selling any 800 or 1000's?

Cheers

SID! (btw 14th November starting my own night with a friend - ERRATIC, electro, trance/techno) should be amazing!

in other words, dont try mixing D&B youll quit before youve even started. Start with house/progressive/trance. Once youve got good take it from there.

to learn on vinyl is a shit load harder than cdj's. the basics are the same, but its all the little nuances you get with vinyl that you have to address, things like 1210's being set up in different ways, reading records as opposed to reading the wave display on 1000's or seeing the time on any cdj. spindle mixing or platter...etc etc.
a vinyl dj will take minutes to pick up how to use cdj's,
a cd dj will need a fuck load longer and the ones i've seen end up giving up.

i have no idea why Deadmau5 gets so much love, i find his productions pretty lame.. granted he can call on tommy lee for mastering and sound engineering which helps a lot if you're looking for a big room sound but ultimately his stuff doesn't excite me.
dj wise, if you're a digital dj then come with a big set up incorporating synths, drum machines, control panels synced up with ableton. it needs to be a live show as such.. see dp and what justice are doing with ableton at the moment.

Yeh i know but as progressive music goes hes at the top. Justice and dp are differant genre. Theyre all good and i agree if your a ddj you should be using a lot more synths etc. Going to eclectricity on saturday at the custard factory anyway, it should be amazing; the last one was. Simian Mobile Disco on a function 1 sound system was rather special !

Yeah. I started mixing tech-house, really easy to beatmatch, slower bpm than most house, and tracks are usually pretty long, so gives you more of a chance to get set up.

I wouldn't get any cdj's lower than an 800 really, 800's and 1000's are ones to have. I've used a 200, and it felt pretty primative.
