Ok, so i've been playing golf a bit lately with some mates, nothing serious though... anyway I'm thinking about starting up golf, so im looking to buy some clubs, obviously dont really want to spend loads, but i have absolutely no idea about whats good/bad etc... |

Someone on here helped me when i asked them, forgot there name as i pm'd them cos they mentioned it, im sure they will come along and say something, they just recommended one of the big makes u can pick up cheap and golf superstores...i'm playing a bit now too....fucking love holding a long shaft on a Sunday morning. |

i started up again with some old wilson 1200 GE off ebay and went for lessons. definitely recommend lessons but it is hard at first as they normally change everything around. will probably go to the ping fitting centre next year tho and splash the cash. |

yeah i am a strong fan of lessons, alot of people just play without which if fine as you will find you own swing. Only it will likely be wrong, inconsistant and drive you mad with random rounds of golf. Grab a cheap set of mizuno's or something? Mx 15's is it? Played twice this weekend, loved it, golfs all that i have to look forward to most of the week |

i used to play from being a kid until about 17/18. Never had any lessons and used to go round courses in about +11 - +15. Best I ever managed was a round of +8. one day i developed a mad slice which i could not sort out so i gave up. started to play again and was hitting alot of low hooked shots so decided to start lessons and the pro basically said i held the club totally wrong and swung it like a baseball bat 1 x driving range and 3 decent courses within one mile of where i live |

Twas me, since then i have been playing golf twice a week, really back into it now JrdnNicks - What do you want advice on? what clubs to buy?how to improve? Id say just start off at a picth and putt then move to a par 3 course then brave a full 18. Keep going to the driving range and lash some balls around. Lessons are good for beginners but dont pay over the odds, think i gave a link to sarny for where you can get vouchers for golf rounds and lessons, ill see if i can dig it out |

Yeah, just general advice on what clubs to buy. Im guessing i dont really need 18 different types of irons for starting off at a pitch and put. I need; Want to spend as little as possibe, as knowing me, i will no doubt stop playing after 3 weeks or so! |

I bought a good ladies' starter set of clubs from the club's shop at Trent Park for £150 approx including a trolley and I'm quite happy with it for now. The brand is St Mellons. |

Strange time of the year to start playing, but i'd back up the lessons shout. I started playing again this summer and got myself down to 18, which i was quite pleased with. I'd suggest getting a: 3 wood I wouldn't start with a driver because they can be hard to hit for beginners and get yourself down the driving range on a regular routine if you can, especially if you're supplementing it with lessons. |

I've just bought some clubs! Irons + wedge were £8 each down from £27, and the driver was £13 down from £50! |

Used to play quite regularly a while back, I tee'd off with a driver once and sliced it out of bounds. Practiced with it on the fairway and couldn't get any better so never took it out with me again. 3 wood was all I needed. I also concur on getting lessons, I had lessons after a while and had to get out of some bad habits in the first few lessons, made the game much more enjoyable after having lessons. What are you going to use as a putter then? |

a real course is nothing like a driving range... the only way to improve play is to practice. I bet you give up cos you will be shit on a real course |

I bet you give up cos you will be shit on a real course yeh id agree with that but with going to a driving range he can practice with every club, find the right or comfortable swing and go on a real course with a bit of confidence. I never went on a full course for a bout 2 years after i started playing |

It took me a while to go on a full course because i felt embarrassed hacking it around. Once you feel comfortable hitting the ball with your seven iron, then i'd consider taking to the golf course at an uncommon time of day. Say midweek, early afternoon if possible, that way you won't get any traffic and you can play at your own pace. |
he has changed my game in stages and i am bit shocked at the improvement in just 5 lessons (tho i've had to hit a load of rubbish shots to get this far).
