Today I am slightly obsessed with...

Since seeing andys glasses model and thinking how, in the pics, she reminded me of a stingray - i've spent the past 15 mins looking at stingrays. Ive learnt that: their faces are really creepy
they can be really big!
they can jump high which can lead to deaths:
A medical examiner says a boater died from head trauma from a 75-pound spotted eagle ray that jumped out of the water in the Florida Keys. The 57-year-old woman's father was driving the boat on the Atlantic Ocean side of Vaca Key, Pino said. "He had absolutely no warning. It just happened instantaneously," Pino said. The coroner's initial examination has determined the Michigan woman died from the impact with the eagle ray. The family requested that no autopsy be performed. Authorities say Zagorski was not stung by the ray's barb. Wildlife officials say such deaths are extremely rare. The stingray also died from the impact, officials said. Spotted eagle rays can weigh 500 pounds and have a wingspan of up to 10 feet. They are known to occasionally jump out of the water but are not aggressive and use the venomous barb at the end of their tail for defense. The rays are protected in Florida waters and are typically seen swimming on the water's surface. "Rays jump to escape a predator, give birth and shake off parasites," said Lynn Gear, supervisor of fishes and reptiles at Theater of the Sea in Islamorada. "They do not attack people." and also, steve Irwin was not the only one to get stabbed in the heart
"James Bertakis, 81, was boating with his granddaughters near the town of Lighthouse Point, 15 miles (24 kilometers) north of Fort Lauderdale, when a three-foot-wide (one-meter-wide) spotted eagle ray bounded out of the water and fell into the boat. As Bertakis struggled to get the ray out of the vessel, the animal lashed its ten-foot (three-meter) tail, piercing the man's heart with its venomous barb. I wonder how they're so good at getting our hearts. |

I was going to call it "Stingrays" but thought Id open it up to all. Im hoping that on various occasions people will do a project style presentation on a subject so that we can all learn. but it will probably just die. |

At first I thought the second picture was of an albino sting ray, but there's black pigmentation in the eyes so I'm pretty certain it's a very young stingray which hasn't developed into typical colours yet. |

I've always been quite fascinated by albino animals full stop. In the past I've had various albino reptiles, pythons, boa's, kingsnakes and lizards and the Albino Gorilla at Barcelona zoo (now dead) was always well interesting imo The only known albino gorilla in history Also, I think it's really cool with the infant sting ray how you can basically see it's anatomy, almost like a person with little arms and legs, with a ghost sheet thrown over |

not all of them are venomous thats why they have 'petting' pools |

Today I'm slightly obsessed with sleep (as I am severely lacking in it)... -The record for the longest period without sleep is 18 days, 21 hours, 40 minutes during a rocking chair marathon. The record holder reported hallucinations, paranoia, blurred vision, slurred speech and memory and concentration lapses. |

highlights from that, for me, were: Some studies suggest women need up to an hour's extra sleep a night compared to men, and not getting it may be one reason women are much more susceptible to depression than men. and Scientists have not been able to explain a 1998 study showing a bright light shone on the backs of human knees can reset the brain's sleep-wake clock. and Anything less than five minutes to fall asleep at night means you're sleep deprived. The ideal is between 10 and 15 minutes, meaning you're still tired enough to sleep deeply, but not so exhausted you feel sleepy by day. |

I was learning about sleep today ! because i have been suffering with sleep paralysis which i thought was something much worse. |
