Our work did the same thing just before the pandemic. Took us all away on a 3 day work trip/piss up to a resort. Downtown Cancun and surrounding beach is pretty grim. Full of trashy, American frat boys and shady locals hanging around in alleyways. What I’d absolutely recommend doing if you have time is to head to Holbox island. Really stunning place, we spent just under a week there. You can catch a shuttle and then a ferry from Cancun I believe. Isla Mujeres is beautiful as well, some of the best water I’ve ever experienced. Again a boat journey is needed to get there. Basically get the fuck away from the main Cancun strip is my recommendation. Laughing out loud

Ta. Ended up being locked into a resort in Tulum. It was all inclusive so drinks from sunrise to sunset from Monday to Friday. We did a company trip out on a catermaran on the Thursday, which was cool, but apart from that it was a pretty much a five day bender for all involved. I was expecting to bump into loads of American frat boys but the resort we stayed in was full of British tourists 🤡

I actually missed the responses to my post about Paris, but confirmed my thoughts.

Guessing one person in Paris commented on the JLC fudge was wearing and that cemented the whole city as the greatest place in europe for him.

Is Mykonos decent or not worth the hype? Can get relatively cheap flights and accommodation and fancying it for a week long break. Any recommendations etc?

It's definitely worth a visit, just bring your credit card as it's pricey. I've been a couple of times and rate it, September is a great time to visit as it will be a lot quieter and less Americans

For something fancy The Yeatman

Loads of places do great natas, Majestic Cafe, while probably not the best, is a nice place (admittedly touristy) to grab one with a coffee as the interior is really cool.

And for the best razorclams in town Tapabento

Stayed at Porto Bay Flores, great hotel in the centre with a nice bar, good for people watching as it's set on one of the busiest streets.

Muu- Great steak place.

Elemento- Tasting menu with wine flight was really good and reasonably priced, at €110 if I recall, miles cheaper than anything in the U.K. Sit in front of the kitchen to watch the action, although it does get hot, but they provide you with fans.

Pregar- Great Prego sandwiches. Small place, so sometimes a queue.

Prova- Wine bar with great natural wines

Orpheus- Tapas/Wine/Cocktails, set on steps on a walk way.

Manteiguaria or Castro- Pastel de Nata

Tried to add pictures of the above reccys, but this shit website won't allow me to!

Maus Habitos for great pizza and cocktails, decent natural wine selection too

Casa Virtude for Portuguese food with a view

Ostras & Coisas for seafood

Would recommend booking all of the above as they get pretty rammed!

Also, check out Capela Incomum (wine bar in a church) and Catraio (Portuguese beers)

Cantinho de avillez for food. Excellent stuff.

Some nice bars just off the side streets nearby to it too.

go up the Douro is you can, very pleasant and good wines and ports. I prefer the wines to the ports and really nice if you like heavy red wine.

mantagaria for pastel de Nata. Maybe two or three branches the city. Excellent

roof of Espaco Porto Cruz is good for a drink. Nice view.
