Pricing up flights at the moment and the price difference vs Virgin/BA is pretty significant.

Have done this quite a lot. Aer Lingus are fine, don't expect BA/Virgin quality meals etc but the pre clearance in Dublin is a godsend for me. Flying this way again in a couple of weeks.

I have no complaints with them.

+1 for pre clearance. Used to do the BA LCY flight loads back in the day and not having to deal with homeland security douchebags on the other end is worth whatever tradeoffs there are.

Yep US security will have you sitting in a room awaiting verification for a few hours before asking you stupid questions like have you ever been to the middle east? Have you ever done any al queada training?

True story, I was 17ish and landed at JFK.

Going to Bol/Brac for 7 days with family to celebrate my dad's 70th, considering extending by a week to maximise holiday allowance. Need to do more research on Croatia but any recommendations for elsewhere to stay for another week? Going in July. Easy one - just want good food, booze, chill.

Love Croatia… lived in Split for a year back when I was 27… would do it again.

Currently in the process of moving to Lisbon (well, outskirts) for a year or so but much harder than i thought. A lot of things we take for granted which need to be sorted before you can actually settle.

Second option is Istanbul.

If anyone has any experience of doing anything similar?

What kind of things? Always thought about moving abroad, but the faff of it has put me off.

Brexit has made it very difficult to move abroad to Europe unless you can prove a large amount of savings and steady income etc. I’d love to fuck off somewhere hot but options fairly limited nowadays.

Can highly recommend Rovinj in the north; must have 5-6 times now. Grand Park Hotel or Lone hotel are both excellent.

A bit closer you have Dubrovnik which is worth seeing, especially out of season. Kotor down in Montenegro is also worth a trip and stay if you can (mini dubrovnik - less bombed too which always helps).

Korcula is lovely and very close (day trip or short stay) so is Hvar. Main town is nice and out of season not full of wankers.

Split is nice, quite heavy on tourists now.

Havent been to Zadar or Zagreb but heard great things about them and sure both would be worth a trip and nice.

There’s a Facebook group called The British Immigrants In Portugal Group (the breakaway group with just 3k members so far, not the other original group which changed its name to something very similar) and a chap called Steve Robinson (former main contributor to the other group) has about 50 pdf guides on the all of the various processes you may face when moving to Portugal, he also offers consultations.

Getting an appointment with SEF immigration services is an absolute nightmare due to lack of staff/appointments. Your experience will depend on what passports you have of course. If you have an EU passport then moving should be much more straight forward.

For convenience you could try Mandela Square, Trumps Grillhouse was great last time and there are a few other places around there if you fancy something other than grill.

Parkhurst is a cool area but can’t really remember anything in particular. But there’s quite a lot there just check Google
